Discover What Type of Traveler Are You
“Experience, Travel – these are as education in themselves.” – Euripides
For those of you who still don’t know—yet, I graduated Bachelor of Science in Tourism. In my college journey, I have discovered that there are Different Types of Travelers under our Psychology of Travel subject.
Being able to understand what type of traveler you are makes the travel planning process so much easier. I do believe that at least 70-80% of our curriculum in our studies can be used as a guide in choosing our career paths for our future. Education plays a huge part in our success and achievements in life. Through learnings and our experiences, surely you will gain something from it!
So, What is Traveling?
Traveling is an act of going from one place to another. Traveling can also be done by foot, air, or land. Traveling exposes us to different people, different countries, and cultures. Traveling helps our mental and emotional well-being reset. Traveling connects us, and boosts us with new possibilities and perspectives in life.
However, as above mentioned, under the Psychology of Travel, there are what we call the “Types of Travelers”— and from here, you can get to know which type of traveler are you. :D
These are the following:
1. Allocentric Traveler
- these are the types of travelers who prefer to DO NOT PLAN. Allocentric travelers would rather have the freedom to explore every area, make their own arrangements, and choose different activities and tourist attractions. They are always game for on-the-spot travel. Allocentric travelers are extreme travelers, and adventurous travelers who can take risks. Allocentric travelers love hikes, mountain climbing, etc. Bringing Hammocks & Tents on their travels most of the time is enough for them.
2. Psychocentric Traveler
- these are the types of travelers that are non-adventurous. Psychocentric travelers want their travel itineraries to be organized and planned before they arrive at their destinations, booked ahead before the said schedule (e.g. Hotels, Restaurants, and other well-developed amenities.) Psychocentric travelers prefer to drive to nearby destinations and stay in familiar and typical accommodations. Most of these travelers don’t want to travel by air. They always tend to be prepared for their travels at all costs. As much as possible they do not like to be stressed and exhausted with their travel.
3. Mid-Centric Traveler
- these are the types of travelers that are not extremely adventurous but they love traveling and always want to try something new. Midcentric travelers fall between Allocentric and Psychocentric travelers. They don’t like going back to a destination many times. Midcentric traveler also likes to book their flights & accommodations in travel packages.
